The heroine, Maya Burkett is one of the strongest heroines in any novel I've ever read. She's not a two-dimensional action heroine because she suffers from PTSD nightmares from her service as a helicopter pilot in Afghanistan. Also, she loves her small daughter very much.
When the story opens, her husband has been murdered--only a few months after her sister was murdered. Maya intends to find out what happened and relentlessly pursues clues. The plot twists were surprising, and so was the ending
