“Mockingjay” is the final installment of the hunger games series. I was impressed with the first book of the series, “The Hunger Games” but I was disappointed by the second book of the series, “Catching Fire”. I thought “Catching Fire” would be like a bridge from “The Hunger Games” to “Mockingjay”. “Mockingjay” would then be the epic conclusion of the series but it didn’t really feel that way. The ending was a depressing and hopeless mess. It’s not like I was expecting an ending with rainbows and Katniss lives happily ever after with her husband. But, I wasn’t expecting the ending to be so gloomy. I also didn’t want the love triangle to be continued on for so long because that wasn’t the main plot of this book. I honestly hoped she would choose Gale but she was leading both Peeta and Gale on. By the end of “Mockingjay” I didn’t really care who she chose. Katniss Everdeen, “the girl on fire” also changed, but in a bad way. In “The Hunger Games”, she was strong, clever, and resourceful. But in “Mockingjay”, she was whiny and didn’t really have control over anything. Overall, “Mockingjay” was not what I expected it be. I know there are many other people who enjoyed this book but personally, I didn’t enjoy reading it. 2/5 stars. - @Riddikulus of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
