This is one of my most favorite WWII movies ever. Though I'm dedicated to the book and the movie did differ periodically, Roman Polanski did a fantastic job uniting his and Władysław's experiences of ghetto life. Adrian Brody also did an amazing job portraying the animal-like life Władek miraculously survived, and deserves every award and nomination he received. This film is guaranteed to make you gasp and hold your breath, chuckle genuinely or sardonically, or occasionally weep where the expression of empathetic sorrow is merited. And please, if you get the chance... read Szpilman's book.
