The plot may be a little too familiar at first (man’s infidelity precipitates loss of wife) but the story is oddly compelling. The first person narration has the impact of a journal—immediate, raw and very much revealing the flaws of the protagonist. Bringing to mind a young, modern John Updike, the author describes the difficult transition both men and women must finally make when faced with loss, whether of love, job, freedom, parents or in this case all four!
