Michael Oher is a homeless African-American teenager who is from a broken home. Mike is taken in by the Touhys, a well-to-do white family who help him fulfill his potential. At the same time, Oher's presence in the Touhys' lives leads them to some insightful self-discoveries of their own. Living in his new environment, Mike faces a completely different set of challenges to overcome - as both a football player and student. Mike works hard and, with the help of his coaches and adopted family, becomes an All-American offensive left tackle.

A wonderful, contemporary fairy tale. Know nothing about football and have no wish to, but loved the film. I think it--the film--will have a long life.

Watched as Sandra Bullock's fan and because a friend's recommendation after a wait of three months for it in a line. Surprised this old movie is still that popular.
Enjoyed the acting and especially the character of Leigh (played by Sandra Bullock).
The movie itself was OK.
It was a relaxing, uplifting, positive fairy tale story. Suitable for bed time or if you just need to switch off your brain. Why I was not thrilled by the movie? Because it was too sweet, an exaggerated, unbelievable Hollywood blockbuster. Please keep in mind that a "movie based on a real story" is often times based on a fraction of reality. In the end I was not surprised that the real Michael Oher did not like this movie.
I was shocked how this movie portrayed Michael Oher, as a rather stupid man, living in poverty and on the streets. Michael Oher (as a movie character) suffered from childhood trauma and PTSD for ten years (since he was 7 years). No one even considered that his untreated childhood trauma resulting in an untreated PTSD may be the reason for his delay, behavior and bad grades. They blamed it on his IQ (when btw the IQ testing lacks validity and is absolutely not correct and should not be used for testing intelligence). I kinda see where the comments bellow were going.....Scary to think if several concussions add to Michael's PTSD.
I am against American football, since it is highly detrimental to health of the players (concussion). Wish Michael had a choice to chose different sport field. But it looked like he was just a puppet doing what others told him was best for him.
Had no idea that one can build a career on jumping half naked in front of crowds (cheer leading) and made living out of it. And they even call it a sport! Ha. Easy money lies in the football industry indeed.

Leigh and her husband decide to take in a young black, homeless teen in their home. With their connections and influence, they provide the teen, Michael, with the resources and opportunities to reach his full potential as both a student and a football player. Sandra Bullock has an amazing performance as Leigh and will move you with every scene. At times, the movie strayed away from underlying messages and tones and became slightly too direct. Nonetheless, the film addressed both racial and class divides within society and how they can be overcome. I would rate this movie 4/5 stars and recommend it to those looking for a heartwarming story. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

The Blind Side follows the true story of Michael Oher, a homeless boy with a broken past who possesses a myriad of potential which he discovers through the help of Leigh-Anne Touhy, a mother of two who refused to give up on him. It is inspiring to see how Michael Oher transforms from a struggling teenage boy to a football star playing for the NFL. This is an incredibly touching and eye-opening movie enjoyed by anyone of any age. It will truly never get old no matter how many times you watch it.

What a touching movie. The relationship between Sandra Bullock's character and Michael shows that unconditional love doesn't require biology. Michael's development and opening up to his community is beautiful and demonstrates the power of love.

A joke of a movie! This movie made Oher look like a straight docile idiot. I recommend this film for people who believe and enjoy stories where only whites can save blacks from poverty. Sandra didn't deserve the Academy Award!

One of the best character studies based on a true story that I've sever seen. Michael is a taciturn, born from poverty, raised in apathy, who struggles between understanding life and living it. He is taken in by a Christian couple who proceed to teach him the meaning of the word family by giving him the love he never received as a child. Truly an inspiring film, and a wonderful movie the entire family can enjoy. Highly recommended.
