The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn't drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University's Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants-and needs-to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby's resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis's apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

During the first disc, I wanted to quit, but I pressed on once I understood the conflict and was looking forward to how the author was going to resolve the issue. What a disappointment! This story had great promise, but the author lacked the ability to craft the story and its ending. Additionally, I felt the author was irresponsible in glossing over the fact that the two main characters took no responsibility or had seemingly little remorse for violent or illegal activity.

I’m not sure how to rate this book. Sometimes I loved it and other times I hated it. I like intense books, but this book was disturbing on many levels. The relationship between Abby (19) and Travis (20) is truly dysfunctional and unhealthy. But the story doesn’t try to present this emotionally manipulative relationship as healthy, which I respected. It’s gritty realism and emotionally charged and so totally screwed up and yet I couldn’t put it down. I’m surprised the library doesn’t have this listed as YA read.

He continued to stare out the window. "I meant what I said before. You need to walk away, Pidge. God knows I can't walk away from you.
