Tom Petty loved the blues and rock music. "Mojo" is a blues term, so the album definitely has a blues feeling to it. That said, don't think it doesn't rock. It has plenty of spark which is typical of a Tom Petty recording. Personally, because I loved blues music, this may be one of my favorite Tom Petty recordings!
This artist/group has put out 20 releases in their career, and this one reminded me of his/their first two albums from the mid seventies,'Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' (76),and 'Your gonna get it' (78). This release is okay but the one to have is 'Hypnotic Eye' from 2014,there they really nail it.
this guy still rocks
Tom Petty is one of my favorite artists. That being said, I didn't get into Mojo as much as I had hoped. I think it's because this disc has more of a blues-rock feel rather then his more traditional rock or pop-rock feel. Don't get me wrong, the album rocks and the quality of the songs and musicianship is top-notch, but the songs just are not as catchy his best stuff from the 80's and 90's. Still, worth picking up if you are fan or like blues rock.
