Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming.

Massive trigger warning for self harm.
This is my second read and it was just if not more enjoyable. Flynn is great at setting the scene and letting things unfold in a hauntingly beautiful way. The show with Amy Adams was also incredible. Us women can be just as sinister as men. I love the range of emotions and characters. Makes me desperately want to read more female villain thrillers.

This account of a deeply dysfunctional family and the damage it caused to an entire town is constantly disturbing and quite revolting in places. I wouldn’t recommend survivors of child abuse read this, unless their mental health is very, very good. The controlling and manipulative mother is especially disturbing. I didn’t enjoy reading it. At all. I only picked it up because “Gone Girl” was so good, and wouldn’t know it was the same author except for the name on the cover.

Not fond of some of the content. I know it is realistic, but I guess I need an escape from the reality of it. This book was not for me, but probably well written for others to enjoy.

This book was very depressing to me. The family is totally dysfunctional and unbelievable. It was like the author was combining every horrible possibility. I did not enjoy the book.

The book Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn was very interesting. If you love thrillers and are into psychology this is definitely the book for you, this is the type of book that keeps you on edge for every page. The setting of the book is very eerie and it makes you realize from the starting of the book that things aren't right. Some things I really liked about this book was the descriptive language the author used because it really helped create the mood of the book. Another thing I really liked about this book was the characters, they were all very unique and had distinctive personalities. Overall this book will give you the chills and I really enjoyed it! rating 5/5

Sharp Objects (written by Gillian Flynn) was one of the greatest books I have read in quite a while. This book was raw and was very interesting as it went into depth of mental health and different unhealthy coping mechanisms. This story follows a 30-something year old woman named Camille Preaker and her adventures in Wind Gap (her childhood hometown). The scary and intriguing part is- she gets involved in two murders as she has to report on them for her job back home! I recommend this book to people who like chilling thrillers, or enjoy mysteries. This book was NOT predictable and I did not find this story to be a waste of my time... I finished it in three days! I definately rate this book a solid 5/5

Wonderful slow burn with a wicked twist at the end!

Sharp Objects is a quick, easy read - but it was rather predictable. It seemed to end abruptly which left the overall feel of the book dissatisfying.

Additionally, it weirdly unnecessarily (in my opinion) over-sexualized 13 year old children which, while I understand the author was trying to describe appearance and attitude, made me uncomfortable at times.

Overall, it's just alright.

A great thriller. For fans of this book, check out "Last Call" by Sean Costello. It is dark and disturbing and has a similar "toothy" theme.

“I don't know that anything would be any good anywhere, so it’s hard to gauge if this is better or worse, you know what I mean?”
“Like: this place is miserable and I want to die, but I can’t think of anyplace I’d rather be.”
“That’s exactly what I mean.”
Get used to it, I thought.

“People got such a charge from seeing their names in print. Proof of existence. I could picture a squabble of ghosts ripping through piles of newspapers. Pointing at a name on the page. See, there I am. I told you I lived. I told you I was.”
