Thumbs down for this movie. I thought the kids and adults did a good job with acting, but I just didn't like the plot very much. While I understand it's probably based on real life, it was just depressing. I was hoping that things would improve after the terrible beginning, but nope. It was based on the horrible behavior of kids running wild and unsupervised (most of the time). Spitting on vehicles, starting fires, stealing things, lying to get what they want, etc. Don't waste your time watching this film unless you don't mind losing 1 hour and half of your life on this mind-numbing movie.

I didn’t like a single character in this movie and there was very little plot. It was so sad and depressing to think about all the kids who live like this in real life that I had to shut it off after an hour.

Bria Vinaite is clearly a rising star. The film is slow but intentional, with an ending that is both heartbreaking and real. More authentic than any I've seen of this year's Oscars buzz.

This was a meandering slice of life film about children who make the most of the sad cards (parents) they're dealt with in life. It's a gritty reality show in comparison to STAND BY ME. However, both films share similar qualities; they beautifully capture the tiny joys of being a kid, just hanging out, finding adventures in the smallest things during one summer. While this film's kids are much younger and don't quite grasp the shame of their social status just yet, or that there futures may be in turmoil, they've seen enough hardship to know how to quickly move on. The three kids, Dafoe and the actress who plays the lead child's mom were wonderful. Recommend.

I agree. Just make it to the ending. All will be revealed. And it doesn't speak highly of the United States. I usually don't enjoy movies where the camera is placed in the point of view of the child, and 50% of this film is shot from the child's perspective. But the acting is terrific, and the editing is mesmerizing. Sadly, this is who we are now. Our road has run out at Cinderella's Castle.

I don't see very many, 'breathe, breathe it's just movie' movie, but the ending was just disturbing. I think of some kid , not all but some, when everything hits the fan where do they run? when institution I took for granted are crumbling like family, religion, schools I know kids that run from cops for no reason. this movie is disturbing but has inspired this grandpa to make a few calls

A serious case of child abuse. Lots of bad language. The kids were brats. Different kind of role for Dafoe.

I found myself watching this and feeling relieved that it was just a fictional movie. Then I watched the special features and found that the writer said he'd researched and included various real situations into his fictitious story. I wonder how many in Canada find themselves living week to week in motels...

Started out like a reality show on kids enjoying their unsupervised activities but turned into a tour de force, like a docudrama, about a preschooler (Moonee) living in temporary housing watched over by her so-very-young single mom (Halley) who had to figure out ways to provide for their daily necessities: food and shelter -- trying to be the best mother she could be under her circumstances. In the mix, a tourist spent $1,700 for four fully-loaded Disney World's "MagicBands" ... What a heartfelt emotional finale, no sugar coating about lives that are one step away from being homeless.

This movie was disturbing...and I loved it. The acting was spot on even with the children. These children and their parents essentially live day to day. The struggle to pay rent in a extended stay hotel. Working at a minimum wage job to try and keep your head above water. Very accurate film about the desperation and choices those in poverty must make to keep a roof over their heads. If you want to feel thankful about what you have watch this movie.
