My personal all time favorite movie of all time is The Music Man. So I LOVE musicals. This one did not catch me. The lead into for the music came out of nowhere and literally scared me. Emma Whatever (there are so many) was very good in her acting, but Gosling was a HUGE bore. All of his dialogue could be replaced with "Jazz, jazz; all that jazz". Their chemistry was nonexistent, and when they didn't get together, it came off as hokey, and relieved because I didn't want to see them together. The choreography was top notch, but the big colorful dance scene in many of the trailers is only at the end and only for a few seconds. woo hoo. The plot was out of date and lame, and had potential, but the jazz angle was obnoxious, and no chemistry. better off watching a classic. Just goes to show the Academy Awards are rigged; how did this win?

Most children under 12 would find this movie boring. My opinion of La La Land is that it was a slightly pointless movie with no plot.

After al the hype I was expecting something more. The plot was weak and the characters were not particularly compelling. I guess it would be okay to watch if you had nothing better to do.

A good cast and visuals can't fully balance out the oddness and meandering purpose. I don't exactly understand why this won so many awards. It was interesting, sure, but it lacked drive or potency.

I saw this a while ago, so my memory isn't too fresh. What I do recall was that it was... okay. Just okay. The music wasn't bad, the costumes were lovely, but... what decade is it supposed to be in? There were old-fashioned studio lights, but also smartphones and newer cars.

Also, spoiler alert: jazz never died. Go to New Orleans and you'll see.

Unfortunately it seems many people don't have the taste for such a masterpiece of a film. It was the cinematic event of the year, a feel-good dramatic romance that doesn't go over the top, but delivers with the utmost beauty, profoundness, and darn fun.

This drama/romance movie shows Mia and Sebastian who are drawn to each other while doing the thing that they both love. But, as their success rises they begin to lose each other and must make difficult decisions that may threaten their relationship and love for one another. This film is heart-breaking, with amazing performances from Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling and represents living your authentic life and doing whatever it takes to please yourself. I would rate this award winning film 4.5/5 stars and would recommend it to anyone with a soft spot for romance and beating the odds. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library

Attractive visuals fall flat under a dull romance and a tired old 'young people try to make it in show-biz' story that tries to emulate golden-age Fred Astaire-style musicals but somehow doesn't quite get there. The singing voices were good, the argument scenes were well-done, and I liked how the very ending was not what might have been expected, but I was expecting more after the hype.

I hate musicals! Horrible movie! Waste of time and life!

Quite a few in IMDb already but here is one not there -- Audition (The Fools Who Dream)

Stone's aunt P1 of 2:

My aunt used lived in Paris.
I remember, she used to come home and tell us...
These stories about being abroad and...
I remember she told us that she jumped into the river once...
Barefoot
She smiled...
Leapt ...
Without looking
And tumbled into...
The Seine
The water was freezing
She spent a month sneezing
But said she would do it again
Here's to the ones who dream
Foolish as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that ache
Here's to the mess we made
She captured a feeling Sky with no ceilling

Stone's aunt P2 of 2:

The sunset inside a frame
She lived in her liquor And died with a flicker
I'll always remember the flame
Here's to the ones who dream
Foolish as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that ache
Here's to the mess we made
She told me...
"A bit of madeness is key"
"To give us new colors to see"
"Who knows where it will lead us?"
"And that's why they need us"
Bring on the rebels
The ripples from pebbles
The painters, and poets, and plays
And here's to the fools who dream
Crazy as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that break
Here's to the mess we made
I trace it all back to then
Her, and the snow, and the Seine
Smiling trough it
She said she'd do it
Again
