"When you pick up a Gilstrap novel, one thing is always true--you are going to be entertained at a high rate of speed." -- Suspense Magazine

It begins with a shocking act of vengeance. Barista Ethan Falk chases a customer into the parking lot and kills him. He tells police that years ago the older man abducted and tortured him. Then Ethan's story takes an even stranger turn- he says he was rescued by a guy named Scorpion. Of course, there is no record of either the kidnapping or the rescue, because Scorpion--Jonathan Grave--operates outside the law and leaves no evidence.

As Grave struggles to find a way to defend his former precious cargo without blowing his cover, he learns the dead man has secrets that trace to an ongoing terrorist plot against the heart of America. It's up to Grave and his team to stop it. But first they must rescue Ethan Falk--a second time.

I'm a huge fan John Gilstrap. I tend to think he falls under the radar in favor of more 'famous' authors. I'm catching up with Jonathan Grave with finishing #8 Friendly Fire. I've already started #9, Final Target

Friendly Fire does not disappoint. Someone said it was a bit too graphic. I don't have that problem: I can READ what I cannot watch.

In Friendly Fire a previous PC Ethan (precious cargo), from a long ago rescue mission finds himself in deep trouble and because of the anonymity of his then rescuer "Scorpion", Ethan convinces no one of reasons for his crime as there are no records for that long ago rescue. Those reasons are tightly woven into another terrifying plot, which is far too possible today.

Scary stuff and an excellent read, with only one tiny thread of the plot left unfinished ... what happened to/with Sgt Dale?

Another page turner from John Gilstrap. The latest is in Jonathan Graves series, this book brings in characters from earlier books. A satisfying read.
