We use money every day. Yet the practice of exchanging paper or bytes for goods and services seems absurd if you think about it. Naked Money explores why money exists and why it so often gets entire nations in trouble.Charles Wheelan explains with his trademark wit and refreshing clarity how our banks and monetary systems should work in ideal situations, and he reveals the havoc and suffering caused in real situations by inflation, deflation, illiquidity and other monetary effects. With illuminating stories from Argentina, Zimbabwe, North Korea, America, China and elsewhere around the world, Naked Money demystifies the curious world behind the paper in our wallets and the digits in our bank accounts.

A good introduction to basic economic principles and monetary systems. I would classify it as infotainment (info-entertainment) which won't be everyone's cup of tea. Personally I prefer educational material to be presented with less Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian quips.

Really interesting book to learn about the financial system and global monetary policy. Goes into deep detail about the recent recession and clearly explains the causes/responses to it.

The first half explains in an informal way - like an introductory lecture - most of the key ideas of macroeconomics, with a focus on currency, minus the formulas and homework questions. The second half provides various cases of how those ideas worked in the real world: in Europe, Japan, USA, and the US-China relationship. Inviting and often humorous.
