Jessica Does (as in promiscuous ~ her last name is Dunn) is definitely not a sympathetic character in The Best Man. Read that book before you read Anything for You. Lots of delicious developments between books.

Jessica didn't get handed a winning hand in life. Her parents are alcoholics. Her brother was born with fetal alcohol syndrome. They lived in a trailer park on the wrong side of town. She was self-supporting at a very young age, and her father stole her money to drink and gamble.

Yet, she persevered. She became an adult too soon and took care of her disabled brother. She was brilliant and beautiful. She worked incredibly hard. She and Connor O'Rourke have loved each other since they were kids, but their road to the altar is bumpy with lots of detours.

This is a chick lit book rather than a romance. The characters are real. Their life struggles are real. The unconditional love is real. It is a beautiful story, and I definitely prefer Kristan Higgins' books which tell a story rather than flip between characters which she adopted in later books.

Can't wait to read the two Blue Heron books waiting for me at the library. If you like Susan Wiggs' Lakeshore Chronicles, you'll love this series too.

Another excellent, well-paced Kristan Higgins novel. Connor was incredibly dreamy in this one and he was what won this for me. Jess, the heroine, didn't do as much for me as she was very frustrating. I also wish there would have been a bit more humor in this one as this is a trademark of Higgins, but considering the content was a bit heavier, I'll forgive it :) Overall, good story with a great cast of characters!

I'm a little nervous that this is the last in this series because I don't know who else she would do a book on. It makes me sad, but I'd also be interested to see if she would do another series, more stand-alone novels again, or even veer into the chick-lit genre.
