The Forest had a few jumpy parts to it but not at all scary what so ever. I'm a sucker for films that deal with spirits, ghosts, and such and I did like the story about the forest and its history but everything else didn't interest me at all. Again, a few jumpy parts to it but as far as I'm concerned there was nothing scary about this film I consider it more supernatural and thrilling than scary. If you intend to see this movie don't expect it to be scary at all but again the ghosts, spirits, and the history of this forest might interest you.

This mystery/drama film stars Natalie Dormer, Taylor Kinney, and Eoin Macken. After a girl’s twin sister disappears in Japan, she decides to go after her by entering the famous Suicide Forest. Along with her guide, she begins to experience strange sensations and feels a presence around her. If the forest didn’t have the reputation that it did, this movie would have been just about a woman wandering around in a forest for a few hours while interrogating the guy that she was with. The movie wasn’t scary, and the acting wasn’t very good at all. I would rate this movie 2/5 stars. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

I really wanted to like The Forest. It is based on the legends of the Aokigahara Forest aka the suicide forest in Japan. The movie also has Natalie Dormer who acted in Games of Thrones. In the beginning o the movie the set up for scares was great. There were various flashbacks that connected me to the characters and why they felt compelled to enter the dark forest. However, mid way through the film there were very obvious scares and the movie became lack luster. This wasn't due to a bad setting (no pun intended), or bad acting it was due to the bad writing and directing. As I mentioned before it could have been a great movie. There is plenty of controversy regarding the Aokigahara Forest and that probably led to a lot of hype surrounding the movie but the movie failed to live up to its potential. Worth a watch with low expectations.

This movie sadly was a waste of time. Boring and not scary (like any other new "scary" movie nowadays). Luckily I had no high expectations. I watched it only out of curiosity since it's based on a legend and a real place. But that was about it. Waste of your time!

Seriously, nothing redeemable about this dreck.

I think I would rather watch the non-stop crappy political propaganda ads that will soon disappear after Nov. election.

This movie was a disppointment. The main character did everything you're not supposed to do. It's unfortunate, I was looking forward to this one.

Love the suicide forest location. That's about it for me regarding this movie. Ghosts were semi-scary but the girl was annoying as hell. Definitely, cheering on those ghosts.

A pedestrian horror with a creepy real-life location as its most intriguing main character, Japan's suicide forest, Aokigahara.

Awful, total waste of time.

Ive seen another movie about the suicide forest & it was actually really good, however, I cannot recall the title & have searched both the library catalogue & Google, with no luck. I will update if I find it though because it is worth watching.
UPDATE: I think the movie was called 'Grave Halloween', unfortunately the library doesn't have it so I can't be certain. I will try my local video rental store & Ive put in a request for purchase to the library. If it is that movie than its way cooler because it was filmed in Vancouver, Brtish Columbia & is based on a true story, not just a true place.
When/if I get more info I will update this again

Japanese teacher: Aokigahara. Th-The suicide forest? In old times it was a place for "ubasute." When there was not enough food, families would bring elderly women, the blind or sick to the forest and leave them to die.
Sara: That's awful. I don't understand. Why would the school take a class trip there?
Teacher: Mount Fuji is very beautiful and important to history. Aokigahara is simply part of the mountain ... People say spirits cannot rest there. They come back. Angry.
Teacher: Yurei. Different from ghost. The forest use them to trick you. Do you know why "do not leave the path"? Because if you get lost and you have sadness in your heart, they will use it against you. Yurei come find you and make you see things and make you want to die. And you do it yourself.
Sara: My sister Jess and I, we are identical twins. Once something happens to the one of us, the other one could tell. It's hard to explain, but I can just feel it.
