No one does romantic suspense better than Jayne Ann Krentz. Now, the New York Times bestselling author of Trust No One and River Road delivers a novel that twists and turns into a read that will leave you breathless. Madeline and Daphne were once as close as sisters-until a secret tore them apart. Now it might take them to their graves. They knew his name, the man who tried to brutally attack twelve-year-old Madeline in her grandmother's hotel. They thought they knew his fate. He wouldn't be bothering them anymore...ever. Still their lives would never be the same. Madeline has returned to Washington after her grandmother's mysterious death. And at the old, abandoned hotel-a place she never wanted to see again-a dying man's last words convey a warning: the secrets she and Daphne believed buried forever have been discovered. Now, after almost two decades, Madeline and Daphne will be reunited in friendship and in fear. Unable to trust the local police, Madeline summons Jack Rayner, the hotel chain's new security expert. Despite the secrets and mysteries that surround him, Jack is the only one she trusts...and wants. Jack is no good at relationships but he does possess a specific skill set that includes a profoundly intimate understanding of warped and dangerous minds. With the assistance of Jack's brother, Abe, a high-tech magician, the four of them will form an uneasy alliance against a killer who will stop at nothing to hide the truth...

I liked this CD. Prior Book: Two friends feel like sisters. At age 12, they both survive a violent event. The main character is almost raped by a stranger staying at the grandmother's (GM) hotel. The grandmother, Edith Chase, and the hotel's maintenance worker, Tom, kill the rapist, Porter, with gardening tools in the maintenance room. The rapist was a black mailing the Politian, Egan, who ran the small town. This person bought the sheriff and everyone else. The GM and Tom hid the evidence in the hotel that the black mailer carried with him. The rapist was buried on the hotel grounds under the gazebo built. The rapist was a private investigator hired the Politian's wife, Louise, to prove Egan was doing infidelity. Instead, got pictures of a murder Egan committed. They knew his name, the man who tried to brutally attack 12-year-old Madeline in her grandmother's hotel. They thought they knew his fate. He wouldn't be bothering them anymore, ever. Still their lives would never be the same. Both of them moved far away. This book: But Madeline has returned to Oregon after her grandmother's mysterious death. And at the old, abandoned hotel - a place she never wanted to see again - the name she never wanted to hear again is spoken. Egan’s whole family is violent committing murder. The son Kevin kills Tom and M’s GM. Kevin tried to bomb M and her body guard. K’s wife killed her sister, Ramona. Ramona stole the black mail material from Tom. R went through the apartment of D and M. L killed E. The son Ezekial was a psychopath. E killed many people. E’s favorite way to cover up evidence was fire. E was a pyromaniac. E buried people alive in buildings. K killed E. K was trying to clean up the family past so he could pursue being a USA Senator without the past haunting them.
