Guibord is an independent Member of Parliament who represents Prescott-Makadewa-Rapides-aux Outardes, a vast county in Northern Quebec. As the entire country watches, Guibord unwillingly finds himself in the awkward position of holding the decisive vote to determine whether Canada will go to war. Accompanied by his wife, his daughter and an idealistic intern from Haiti named Souverain (Sovereign) Pascal, Guibord travels across his district in order to consult his constituents.

An extremely well-made political satire by one of Quebec's best directors, with an excellent cast of actors, especially Patrick Huard as pacifist-leaning Federal MP Steve Guibord, and his Haitian intern, Souverain (a wink in the direction of separatist politics!), played by Irdens Exantus. If your French language skills are up to it, be sure to watch the bonus material, the making of the movie, with director Philippe Falardeau. The fault lines between nationalists and separatists, pacifists and pro-war voters, indigenous and settler Canadians are well depicted.

Film qui, en même temps, est amusant et nous fait voir les revers de la politique.
Les acteurs jouent bien leurs rôles. Celui qui joue le premier ministre Harper est particulièrement bon. Le député et son assistant apprennent l'un de l'autre.

Steve and Souverain both learn lessons in democracy. Steve walks a wavering middle line and Souverain shares what he learns with his family and friends in Haiti. very Canadian, very amusing.

this is the sixth Falardeau film I have enjoyed.

for some reason Suzanne Clement, who plays Steve's wife, is not shown as part of the cast in this listing. she has also acted in several Xavier Dolan films

An endearingly naïve activist from Haiti is hired as a personal assistant to a beleaguered Quebec MLA in this droll satire on all things Canadian....but most of the arrows are pointed directly at Harper. The scenes where the dumbfounded aide tries to tell his countrymen how things are done in Canada are the funniest. The audience howled, I merely smiled a lot. Not bad.

Saw this film at the film festival. It was great. Loved the Canadian humour and the political undertones.

Amusing movie. Worth a watch, especially if you're familiar with the north.
Title translates to: Guibord goes to war.
