"People would call it rap, but I really don’t feel like I rap. There’s so many great rappers, like if we had to battle or some sh**, they would just cream me. I don’t really consider myself a rapper, I just happen to have bars, or something like that. I still sing man, I’m a singer, ya feel me?"
The $ in sign just feels gratuitous, doesn't it? West Coast sorta rapper/sorta singer Ty Dolla $ign's full length debut is emblematic of many of the problems with mainstream hip-hop: it's way too long (70 minutes), crammed with guest stars (an impressive roster including Kendrick Lamar, Kanye, Future, and Fetty Wap), and is glutted with producers. It's not bad so much as forgettable and Ty fails to emerge as much of a personality or talent. I do like that he mispronounces blase ("Blase") so that it rhymes with Maserati. I think TC is his brother who is in prison.
