I've watched Swing Kids three time and was awed by what people went through if they were opposed to Hitler. Another outstanding opponent of Hitler was Dietrich Bonhoeffer and there are several movies about him.

Several people have said that Swing Kids is historically inaccurate but they don't specify any fact or event that is inaccurate. In any case, this movie is a great wake-up for people who have had life too easy and by whom democracy is under-appreciated.

Chilling (especially as I happened to watch it on Jan 20/2017 which was the Inauguration Day of Donald Trump) although it loses some veracity for being in English. Great swing music from the 30's and wonderful dance choreography.

VERY GOOD 1993 film set in 1939 Germany's changing historical times (which I'm glad I didn't have to live through). High quality writing, acting, cinematography, choreography with an interesting trio of main characters whose sympathies evolve, change and cover the shifting German political flavors of the time.

Poor adaptation of the times. Lots of dancing but these smart alecks would have been arrested and their heads kicked in by SS.

Great dance scenes and interesting Nazi historical information, if true.

Who do you think would win in a fight, Swing Kids or Newsies? Christian Bale is in both!

I would disagree and say that this movie is very well done. The music, dancing, and acting is really amazing. I think it really portrays how the swing kids felt then, and what was going on. This movie is shown at schools because of the great emotions it portrays of the swing kids, and what was going on.

Had to come on with some sobriety here and balance the 4 1/2 stars someone gave this flick - which amazingly still stood, until I give it a more realistic rating of: 1 1/4 stars - and that's only because of the musical numbers.
If it weren't for those dance-hall sequences, this movie's ridiculously light treatment of history - in particular, nazism and the one-dimensional bad-guy view given those characters in this script - would have made it a candidate - never mind, for worst movie-in-bad-taste of that year (1993) - try worst movie-in-bad-taste of a generation!
I think "Swing Kids" plays fast & loose with historical documentation. And because of that, I'm not gong to give it any more attention than the very little it only deserves for content - save to mention that the only reason anyone would have for seeing this movie, might be to see the currently excellent actor, Christian Bale, painfully honing his craft back then, in order to become the really great actor he is today.
If you loved him in "The Dark Knight", you'll get a queasy feeling watching him "Doppelgänger" style - in this flick. But it was all part of paying his dues for when his big break came in 2000 with American Psycho!

Come to think of it... Christian Bale's transition from this surreptitious role of masked malevolence to that of the psychopathic villain in American Psycho - makes a lot more sense now, given that his budding performance here is the only piece of credibility this movie has going for it - other than the dancing.
