Shadows of Glass by Kassy Tayler was a fantastic story following the adventures of a Wren after she escapes from the mines under the dome with Pace and the the other shiners that have followed. Embarrassingly enough, I started the series with this book, not knowing it began with Ashes of Twilight. But, Kassy Tayler gave enough helpful information about the previous book that I was able to follow and connect to the second book as if I had started with the first one.
I had believed Shadows of Glass would be boring when I first started the book because I thought it would just be about how Wren and the others set up and survived in the wild. My opinion was changed when the mystifying Hatfields and their airship were introduced, along with all the dangers that can occur outside the protection of the dome.
If getting over the amount of friends lost in the escape wasn’t enough, Wren begins to realize that her group still isn’t safe as long as they are outside the dome, but where do they go if both locations aren’t safe?
The title Shadows of Glass is a bit of a confusing title, but I almost believe it makes sense for the novel because it is describing Wren’s clear depression and the turmoil she goes through outside the dome.
The love triangle between Levi, Pace and Wren is definitely tense, as Wren tries to choose between the two men that have both expressed their love for her. Pace, being the man she met in the mines back under the dome, and Levi, being the man that can show her the world beyond her old, claustrophobic life.
All in all, I appreciate the detail in Shadows of Glass and the riveting plot that kept me on my seat! Great read!
