5 star. Storytelling where crime is only a plot driver - not the main attraction and story requires your attention. Characters you feel you know - and like, and care about. Wonderful lighting, camera work, music. Sorry, no gratuitous violence, no obligatory chase scene with mandatory explosion (yawn) at the end, no overly dark lighting or designed-to-cause-anxiety soundtrack. No unimaginative, lazy writing that depends on profanity. Not trending-ly edgy (thank you!) - just old-fashioned, well-done production value and look-forward-to-it viewing. More, more!

Well acted. Interesting plots.

lovely, really lovely. Understated acting, terrific setting (1960's oxford). Especially like what isn't said- no over-explaining, no talking down to the viewer... Morse and Thursday are true "Englishmen". Charming.

Endeavour is the BBC prequel series to the original BBC Inspector Morse series. In the pilot episode Detective Constable Endeavour Morse is sent to Oxford to help in the search for a missing teen. (See docjnsuss August 11, 2013 comments below with details about the Endeavour pilot episode) Endeavour Series 1 contains four additional episodes of the young Detective Constable Morse as he began his career in Oxford. All four episodes are interesting, complex and showcase Detective Constable Morse's skills as an investigator.

I almost missed the series given the name 'Endeavor' meant nothing. I'm very glad I saw it.
I liked 'Inspector Lewis' but 'Endeavor' is even better.
The actor puts so much of himself into the crimes and the character that I can really feel what he does.
I've watched an 'Inspector Morse' since and now see what made him---I'll watch the whole 'Morse' series now.
