The most underrated ,but most respected & cost-effective unit within Canadian Armed Forces. Evolved from World war II as early warning unpaid volunteer unit against possible Japanese invasion to Cold war early warning system to now unit to defend arctic land from arctic sea route thanks to global warning.
Regular army officers have to learn cross-culture & arctic training with mostly First Nations personnel.
Unit had to use until recently Lee-Enfield Bolt action rifle given semi-automatic rifles don't work in extreme environment.
