Sweet story. Predictable, but a nice take on the Princess and the Pea. Nothing too horrible here, (unless you count the fact that the elves are evil - gasp!) and a pretty normal fairy tale.

A fun take on the "princess and the pea" story.

I just picked this up at the library and thought it would be good. It was cute (I admit) but I was dissapointed. I knew almost what the ending was in the middle of the book. Very predictable. It almost sounded like my fiction writing (which is not that great). If the author had given more details and really built on the story, it could be even better. Good for younger readers(say, 10 and under), but for more advanced, well...just if you have nothing else to do. Good story line though and pretty creative. Also, it was better than "The Thirteenth Princess" so it just shows that with practice, writing can get better and better. Read "Princess of the Wild Swans". Much, much better details and characters!

A lot of love-making for such young characters, but it is a very cute book. A retelling of lots of fairytale/myths.

I have read Diane Zahler's "The Thirteenth Princess" and enjoyed it, but I have found that I have enjoyed this book more.
A well-written retelling of "The Princess and the Pea" with the German poem "The Elf King" and a hint of Norse mythology woven into it.
A definite treat for folklore and fairy tale lovers!
