Far from presenting a "yay, progress!" paean to cloning, Woestendiek peels back the veneer of feel-good pet-owner reunification to expose the animal abuse and neglect, international legal battles, scientific fraud, media scandal and dissatisfied pet owners involved in a quest that was ultimately viewed as just a stepping stone to cloning humans.

Woestendiek makes it clear that he is a lover of shelter dogs.

Who knew that pets would be at the cutting edge of cloning technology. Dog Inc. takes a critical look at science, ethics and human emotions. Many questions are raised and explored in this book, however one question remains unanswered.Do these animals WANT to be cloned.
