This is by far the best how-to book I've come across. Speyer does an amazing job presenting research and real-life anecdotes that relate to each situation, as well as very polite, skillful, and direct ways of breaking ties with everyone from your boss to your friend. Being direct does not come naturally to me, and I tend to avoid conflict where possible. I don't like to hurt other people's feelings and I find it hard to speak up when I'm upset. This book however, offers such mindful and considerate phrasing that it quickly alleviates a lot of that pressure. You can confront any situation knowing that you're asserting your rights and presenting your feelings in the kindest way possible. Even Peggy Post, the director of the Emily Post Institute said, "[Speyer's] steps include ways to be fair and appreciative--no matter what. Readers will learn to handle those awkward farewells with consideration and tact." Gold stamp of approval!
