Some parts were really quite good, however they were separated by ramblings. The two pilots, German and American made it to about the three quarter point in the book and then the young American soldier was introduced. I knew how the book would end (the Americans win the war) but I was curious as to how the author would wrap it up so I kept on reading. Not really recommended.

A stunning achievement; Shaara gives the reader a novel of the Great War that's outstanding. In combining multiple points of view, from both sides and from high ranks to the front line, he really outdoes himself.
