Miss Julia is a proper lady of a certain age with a backbone of iron and perfect steel magnolia poise, not to mention the sharpest tongue south of the Mason-Dixon Line. But Miss Julia Throws a Weddingfinds her a little wistful when Hazel Marie, once her late husband's paramour and now her best friend, prepares to move out and live in sin with that nice Mr. Pickens. And with her she's taking Little Lloyd, the apple of Miss Julia' s eye! But suddenly, to her delight, a wedding is in the offing. Handsome Deputy Sheriff Coleman Bates and attorney Binkie Enloe announce their plan to run down to the courthouse next week and tie the knot. That's no way to do it, insists Miss Julia (the only person around who knows cucumber sandwiches are correct in summer and ham biscuits in winter). Taking a few shortcuts in etiquette, Miss Julia decides to organize a real ceremony herself. Will Little Lloyd sing a solo? Will anybody notice the sparkling grape juice isn't champagne? These and other hilarious hurdles on the way to the altar reinforce Miss Julia's undying motto: if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

This is the third book in the series and my favorite so far. Miss Julia is not keeping evidence from the police or running from them as she tries to solve a mystery. Instead she is helping to plan a nice wedding in less than two weeks for friends of hers who had just thought to go to the courthouse and get married by the justice of the peace and in the middle of it all, the bride is unsure of getting married. There is a small, non-violent crime in the background that gets resolved at the end. The novel is sweet and very well written. As Miss Julia interacts with more and more people she starts to mellow a bit and see things from a different perspective.

***** Awesome book! I love Miss Julia because she is real, odd, quaint, domineering, demanding, controlling, loving, kind, and a hoot! Which you'll understand the hoot at end of this hilarious book! I like all of the characters and their building relationships. Makes me smile!
