The fantastic journey of Belle, a bright and independent young woman who takes her father's place as the prisoner of a beast in his castle. As Belle befriends the castle's enchanted staff, she and the Beast slowly begin to look beyond their initial reactions to each other and see who they truly are. But back in Belle's village, her father's fears for her safety drive him to rally the villagers to free Belle from the castle--a plan that goes awry, with dangerous consequences, when Belle's would-be suitor Gaston twists the rally into a mob and leads an attack on the castle.

Lives up to the animated version and past live action remakes. Emma Watson as Belle is very good supported by very familiar veteran actors.

Meh

The story gets better after the part belle brought him back to the castle. Everything before that is quite awkward and stiff

Definitely hyped-up movie because it's a Disney production & because of the actors. I found it repetitive and boring. Preferred the animation way more to this one. Although the scenes were beautifully shot and the special effects were great, I felt like they didn't belong in this movie.

This was well performed. It could be a Broadway performance. The singing and costumes and set designs were great. I highly recommend and I would watch again and again! Very romantic!!

Saw it with my best friend at first! I love how Emma Watson and others acted their roles. The acting was really good but the songs were....well not too good. It's a good movie overall

Beauty and the Beast is my favourite Disney cartoon movie. It's a dream come true that it was turned into a live-action film. Feature all the classic characters and songs.

If I wasn't too old for Disney, this manipulative piece of formulaic commercialism would get 4-1/2 stars, I recommend to anyone and would watch again someday. Well done, Disney, I had a tear in my eye. The horses were beautiful and Gaston was incomparable.

I liked this DVD. It is good for all ages. The script is written mainly for children. This particular DVD is the main story done with real people. It has some new songs compared to the cartoon version. It is well acted. The computer graphics are good. It is recorded in the English language. The costumes were well done. The computer graphics were fabulous. I enjoyed the music. The dancing in the bonus video was fabulous. Some parts will be scary for young kids. I get why this movie is liked. It has some nice visuals, plot holes from the 1991 animated movie are fixed, and to many a fan's delight-- Emma Watson is Belle. It's a recreation of the movie we're familiar with and love, and the familiarity is part of the charm.
But I don't like this movie. It's almost an exact recreation of the 1991 movie, and it's not even a good one at that.
The lighting is dark to amplify the gloomy mood, but dim lighting does not make a movie better. It only makes it difficult to see.
The two main leads lack the charm and personality of their animated predecessors. I was more invested in Lumiere and the Featherduster but only because Gugu Mbatha-Raw's performance was endearing.
The leads aren't trained singers, which wouldn't be a problem if this wasn't a musical romantic-fantasy. But it is, and it is. It's telling when the minor characters have better singing abilities than the leads when it should be an even field.

And this version of Beauty and the Beast has already been adapted as a stage musical. Do we really need another adaptation of this exact story?

If you want to see a different interpretation of Beauty and the Beast, I would suggest the one on hoopla made in 2016. Or watch the series starring Ron Perlman. It's different but at least it's not a retread of the same story by the same film company.
