Based on a true story, this sweet picture book is a great simple explanation of how things happened for this sweet hippo.

This is a variation of the Owen & Mezee story for early readers. I would use the original Owen & Mezee text for whole class instruction, and supplement with Mama, or use Mama to contrast how the same story can be told from another perspective. If you have a subscription, Reading A-Z also has an adapted version of this story. Useful for teaching themes of friendship or addressing disasters such as tsunami.
