I saw this when it first came out and was so fooled by the actors. Janet McTeer and G. Close were brilliant. A great portrayal of life in 1920's Ireland & likely many other countries. This is a very different approach to telling the…

An extra star for Glenn Close's stunning performance as Albert, a cross-dressing woman whose ability to pass as a manservant gives her a sort of freedom in a harsh, class-stratified Victorian Dublin. All changes when she meets another…

This is a 2011 British-Irish drama directed by Rodrigo García, based on a 1927 novella by George Moore.
It is an extraordinarily bizarre and heartwrenching story.
Superb is the performance of Glenn Close as Albert Nobbs.

Absolutely stunning portrayal to Albert Nobbs...taking into consideration the timeline of when this is occurring along with great thematic back drops and other great actors/actresses....accolades to the time, dedication, and true to form…

It is best to watch this film without expectations or preconceptions: It is an excellent film in presenting socioeconomic survival tactics in the 19th century.
I do not hold with the boring and lost interest statements: You will be…
March 23 2015.....I found this movie after watching 'The Grand Secduction' (which I loved) and was searching for other movies with Brendan Gleeson. This one sure looked interesting, but I found it slow and just a teensy bit boring in…

It was 19th century in Ireland and two women disguised themselves as men to make a living. The story was not bad but I had to get used to the expressionless face of Albert Nobbs, played by Glenn Close, though.

Sensitive and fascinating portrayal of transsexualism at a time and place where humiliation was the least of the risks every present. Glenn Close delivers a marvelous performance.
I think Glenn Close did a good job in being under the radar not to reveal her identity. That role was of a person who felt the need to dress as a man in order to find a job AND keep it. As a woman she needed to act professional and keep…

Somebody should have advised Glenn Close to play with more animation. We respond to people living under pressure if we can get much closer to them than Close allows us to here. Janet McTeer and the other actors do a good job.

I loved this movie. It portrayed what a woman's life was like in 19th Century Ireland. As well it gave a good idea of the differences between the upper and lower classes and how, if you were both a woman and lower class you really didn't…

I didn't think this movie was boring, but it was painful to watch Albert and her inability to interact with other human beings. I don't see the point of the film.

This is one of my favourite movies of recent viewing. The main character chooses as a young vulnerable girl to live as a male, but because she has to guard her secret so closely, she is unable to form any relationships at all. Glenn…
