This turned out to be a real treat. It took some time for it to really grab me... a little over halfway through. But when it did, it really did. And from that point on, it just got better and better.

I wanted this book to be something other than what it was. The concept sounded like it would make for a compulsively readable book. But getting through it felt like something of a chore. Which is odd because it made me laugh out loud every time I picked it up. You would think a novel that funny would make me want to keep turning the pages. Strangely, no. I did finish it. And it wasn't bad. It just wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be.I wanted this book to be something other than what it was. What a phenomenal writer Messud is. Her prose is extraordinary. This novel is a true work of art. I can't wait to read more of Messud's work.

I loved this. I love Eleanor. What a treat of a character she is. I hope to forget it soon so I can read it again and experience it anew.

Completely, utterly insane in all the best ways. I wish I could erase it from my memory so I could read it again for the first time.

Nuts, in an egg-heady way. Gripping. A fun read. Loved it.

I love Claire North's work. But I couldn't get into this one. DNF'd it. Not applying a star rating, as that wouldn't be fair since I didn't finish it.

The one and only time I've sent fan mail was upon finishing this book. Speechless.

Why is this such a popular book? It's... terrible. I kept reading, thinking surely if people are so hot for it, there's a reason. But for the life of me I can't imagine what it is. I should've known better, I suppose. After all, Eat, Pray, Love was also wildly popular, and it was the most self-aggrandizing piece of narcissistic crap I've ever read. Why is this such a popular book? It's... terrible. Terrible. One dimensional characters. Zero suspense. Not good at all.

There are worse reads, but this isn't what I'd call "good." None of the characters are remotely likable. The plot tries so hard to be gripping, but it's really just kind of meh. And it's too bad about the copyediting... is it really that hard to learn how to use a comma? There are worse reads, but this isn't what I'd call "good." None of the characters are remotely likable. Phenomenal. Gentry is officially on my always-read list of authors. Her work is artful, compelling, imaginative, and yet wildly relatable.

Like everything I've read of Ishiguro's, this one has stayed with me years after I first read it. Heartbreaking, utterly believable and yet so imaginative.
